Canadian fisticuffs! Sipped & spit

Oh, Canada!

Check out this 5-minute radio segment from CBC wherein to Canadian wine personalities start sparring verbally–and then literally–in the studio. And there’s no hockey involved.

Good stuff. Very Monty Python-esque. You will be LOLing.

In other wine news:

AU REVOIR and BONJOUR: Jacques Puffeney, a viticultural leader in the Jura, has sold his vineyards (10.5 acres) to Guillaume D’Angerville of Burgundy. [wine-searcher]

MOSCATO FOR ALL: Russia threatens to ban French wine imports in retaliation for Western sanctions. [Decanter]

BIG BOTTLES: Two magnums of Chateau Petrus 1961 fetched $79,625–about $800 an ounce–at Sotheby’s NYC this past weekend. [Bloomberg]

PRO TIP: Brut NV on a label does not mean the wine is from Nevada.

  1. Too bad the fisticuffs was (were?) all a joke, perpetrated by the This is That team!!! A great news show of satire….www.cbc.ca/thisisthat

  2. Echoing the last comment, “This is That” is a mock news show that routinely fools folks because it plays it very straight – they even air listener calls outraged at some of the news stories. Call it “the Onion” effect.

The first time my wife and I heard it we were fooled, and only later figured out that it was satire. I think it was a piece on RCMP motorcycle officers getting a budget for new Italian-cotoure designer leather motorcycle jackets 🙂

  3. hilarious

  4. Well done but those wineries don’t exist, much of the wine world fell for the farce, This is That is famous for its satire…….

  5. Hi all – I hope you had a good break…Yes, the piece was satire–I didn’t want to tip my hand in the piece, thus included only a reference to Monty Python to get the listener in the right frame of mind. But hearing that one guy’s voice probably was the biggest tip that it was a spoof.

    Happy new year!
