Trump, not so interested in wine, buys Virginia winery

Donald Trump has purchased Kluge Estate Winery and Vineyard in Virginia for the terroir, saying, “I’m really interested in good real estate.”

Er, wait. He added that he’s not so interested in wine. He continues: “This place had a $28 million mortgage on it, and I bought it for $6.2 million. It’s a Trump deal!”

In buying the the 776-acre property in Virginia at foreclosure auction, he has said “you’re hired” to the owners Patricia Kluge and her husband and will likely be keeping them on to run things, according to

Will any of the one of the wines get re-branded “Comb-Over Cuvée” as the twitterati suggested? No such luck from the presidential hopeful (and teetotaler). “It’s only Trump. Everything is Trump!”

  1. (Un)fortunately the current state of wine is much better than that of politics in the U.S. …

  2. Let’s just hope he doesn’t bulldoze it into another Trump resort. Thanks for sharing the story.

  3. Oh, please. Of course he’ll bulldoze it. He’ll leave just enough vines to pretend it is a vineyard resort and the rest will be golf courses and tacky, golden resort property.

  4. It will be interesting to see what he does with the estate. 750+ acres screams resort long term doesn’t it? How’s it currently zoned?

  5. There is more going on in Virginia these days which captures The Donald’s Attention.

I love Kluge wines (even though I do not drink anymore). They have a very classy operation. Unfortunately, the laws passed in recent years about distribution rights have made it difficult to make a profit in the wine business.

If The Donald can make a very classy resort to compete with The Boar’s Head Inn in Charlottesville he will be doing a good thing. There is enough local clientele and tourists to service two fine resorts. The wine just comes with the program.

Tasting is fun! Ever try Kluge wines? Very fine wines!

  6. […] Virginia wine industry, The Donald has purchased Virginia’s Kluge Estate Winery and Vineyard. Dr. Vino posts on the move. This seems to simply be a case of Trump finding an undervalued piece of real-estate to buy up, and […]

  7. Just what the world needs: Tacky Wine!
