Since the Harvard resveratrol study on aging by Dr. Sinclair was published in the journal Nature a flood of brand new and somewhat dubious companies have sprung up selling resveratrol. Many have no scientists, no labs, no quality control and no experience. Many of these companies are selling product which actually contains either no resveratrol or none of the trans-resveratrol isomer. Both I and Dr. Mehmet Oz have recommended Biotivia Bioforte and Transmax. They are made by a company with 18 years of experience and Biotivia supplies many of the university medical schools and researchers. They are also the one which the NIH and the Canadian Ministry of Health have chosen to certify as an IND for use in human medical trials.

Consumer Lab, an independent testing authority, evaluated the major brands and found many lacking in content and quality. The highest potency products that passed their evaluation were Biotivia, Transmax and Bioforte. A product by Life Extension Co. failed badly with only 26% of the claimed resveratrol. No company with a name made up from the word resveratrol passed the tests. This is clearly a case of buyer beware. Look for a reputable company with the resources and experience necessary to produce a quality resveratrol supplement. Resveratrol is not an easy supplement to produce and requires very sophisticated processing.

I'm sure this sounds cute in theory, but there is a huge difference between corn-fed beef and grass-fed beef. I'm not nearly so concerned about years coming off my life with the local grass-fed beef in my diet.
