I find the difference in regional taste interpretation interesting. As he mentioned how what we call petrol is probably "flint and minerality." Depending on the environment and your own life experiences, it can dramatically effect the associations and vocabulary you have for taste. I know that's not saying anything novel, but it never gets old for me either.

I sell German Wines for a living, and I can say for sure that; Carlos, TCA problems are far from being solved. Nearly every day( I open a lot of wine), I open a bottle that's corked or tainted...I personally like the screw-cap, and some of the more reputable producers like Toni Jost are even using screw caps in Auslese and Beerenauslese Pradikat wines. At the price level these wines can reach, I would be more than happy to know that the risk of the wine being corked is taken out of the mix.

I do not understand.
Why using screwcaps if cork stopers improved a lot ther quality and TCA problems are solved.
The company mais responsible for introducing TCA/bad quality cork in Australia just went Bankrupcy.
Suport tradition and help environement. Use cork stoppers.

Corks provide an effective barrier to atmospheric oxygen, and there is little or no difference in the oxidation state of wines under cork and under screwcaps. The main sensory difference is caused by the gradual adsorption of volatile, polar compounds by the cork.
I'm with Tannic, I like petrol in an aged Riesling. Especially when it has the flowery notes that remind you of WD40. (I'm not joking.)
