The writing is very good and it moves along without much dithering. I agree with you that the "who has the biggest cellar" mentality is disturbing and perverse, but it's sort of a snapshot of the era, akin to the "Big Swinging D--ks" of Wall Street back then. I also thought the parts about the rare wine auction business were interesting, as well as the Grand Tasting events talked about. All in all, a good summer read!
