Okay, mustard, fog and the hills say Cali north coast. Maybe even my home area of Mendocino County?

That looks like ancient traditional Zinfandel vines with no trellis. It looks an awful lot like the Napa Valley but i think that would be too obvious or not specific enough. Perhaps the northern end, Geyserville maybe. But, I think I will plump for Dry Creek Valley in Sonoma County.

Yups, looks like Dry Creek, or maybe northern Russian RIver, valley.

I’ll agree that those look like some gnarly old Zin vines, but I’m going to say Amador county.

I’m thinking you were facing west on Dry Creek Road . . . or north in Alexander Valley. Is that Geyser Peak in the distance? Given the goopy gray—exactly what I see outside now and did all day yesterday–it definitely looks like it’s somewhere nearby.

The vines do indeed look to be either Zinfandel or Grenache. The soil type, however, looks wrong for the Southern Rhone. So I’ll have to say Sonoma County, Dry Creek Valley, Geyserville district.

Wow, Richard, great deductive logic! Swirlingnotions - facing west on Dry Creek Road — you nailed it!
Very impressive as usual with these photos.
Yes, it’s a gnarly old zinfandel vine in a photo I took during the third week of February.
