Hi all - thanks for these comments. Indeed, my comments were only for Bordeaux as Piedmont was great. Paul, 1947 was indeed fantastic and 1957 now largely forgotten. So a 60 year stretch of unlucky sevens...Dunno about those older ones!
Cheers,

1947 was pretty good I don't think 1957 was that great. Haven't had a 1937,... 1927 anybody?

1997 was just fair in Bordeaux but was great in Italy. If you look hard enough you'll find a great vintage somewhere!

I was intrigued by this unlucky number 7 vintages. So I took a dive in my books and went looking for the vintage qualifications of my favorite region: Piemonte, and more specifically Barolo.

And what turned out: 1977 and 1987 mediocre to bad. But 1997 was an exceptional year and also 1967 has been recorded as an excellent year. So here no unlucky string of vintages with the number 7.
