Tyra Banks: wine is sexy yet nasty

It’s a tough week for fashionistas (and it’s only Monday!). Paris Hilton is in jail. And Tyra Banks doesn’t like wine but orders it to look sexy. Roll the tape from her personal website [via M&C]:

I recently went to Napa, California, and I learned how to pair wines with certain tastes, how red wine tastes good with salt and bitter things like lemon. So, every now and then I’ll order some wine at the table. I’ll only take two sips, but I’ll keep holding the glass cause it makes me feel sexy, but I still don’t drink it because it still tastes kind of nasty to me. (emphasis added)

Wow, the classic pairing of red wine and lemon–no wonder the former top model thinks wine’s nasty! Help her out with some newbie wine suggestions in the comments. I’d start her off with a sangria if she wants to give red wine with citrus another try.

  1. “Riunite on ice… so nice.”

  2. Giada De Laurentiis had a recipe for a lovely combination of Pinot Grigio, Sparkling Water, with lemons and oranges. It’s a very simple recipe and a wonderful drink, especially for those who don’t yet appreciate wine.
Search the food network site for “wine spritzer” if this link doesn’t work

  3. Moscato d’Asti from a good producer like La Spinetta or Ceretto is a wine that I doubt anyone - from wine hater to hardcore wine geek - would not like. It’s lightly bubbly, lightly sweet and brings a smile to any face capable of the act. If I were a rapper, I would pour it for my posse over Cristal any day.

I’m not talking about Asti Spumanti, which is just a step away from Riunite (great video, Mark!)

    Moscato d’Asti, it’s not nasty. . .

  4. Where do you find this stuff? Amazing. Red wine, lemon, and SALT?

  5. I didn’t know that lemons were salty and bitter…maybe she is thinking tequila and not wine :)

  6. Calimochos. A little Three-Buck Chuck in a rocks glass filled with ice and a bit of Coca-Cola and she is off and struttin’.

  7. [...] Riunte whose marketing department declared “on ice…so nice.” (As recently posted in a comment, with video!) [...]

  8. Although I believe that the vast majority of (male) readers could forgive Ms. Banks anything, especially when she’s featured in a bikini, I was discouraged by her bizarre perceptions of wine. Nothing a little education couldn’t fix, although 3-buck chuck & Coke would set anyone off for life. I bet you could find a cadre of males who would be more than willing to volunteer to help her educate her palate. Dr. Vino to the rescue?!

  9. does anyone remember the wine that was out the same as riunite? this has been driving my friends & i nuts not boones farm. I hope someone out there still remembers.

  10. Hmm, dunno that one, matts mommy. Maybe Mateus? Lancer’s? Paul Masson?
