But it’s a perfect example of why food-and-wine pairings should be at most gentle suggestions and people should worry a lot less about them. It’s not like the wrong pairing is going to explode in your mouth.

I liked this feature a lot. Interesting to see the totally different recommendations from the two shops. And I think it makes a good point about food and wine pairings. While there are wines that can often pair well with certain dishes and others that won’t do that dish justice at all, there’s always the notion of personal preference for what you want to drink and it seems as if the second clerk had a wine in mind that she loved, and would drink with whatever she was eating as her “go-to” wine, so she recommended it more for those reasons than whether or not it would fit with the meal.
