I don't feel strongly about them one way or the other, they are useful to those for whom a tasting note doesn't convey sufficient information, which, let's face it, is a large percentage of wine drinkers. On the other hand, in response to the question you pose, from a personal perspective, so what if I can't tell from your two tasting notes which one you thought was better. I'd be personally more likely to pick one that sounds interesting from your description, or try both, and decide for myself.
