Born in Italy for 43 years living there, I am often disappointed when i go to the wine shops.
Although living in Ny State I miss the authentic Italian wines from small producers. Part of the problem is also due to U.S.A import laws. For example a new label for the U.S.A market has to be printed. Would an additional sticker not fulfill requirements?
Good luck to Gregory!

Greg,

My name is David Yancey, I live in Virginia, and I have recently receieved my importer's license to import wines from Europe into the USA. Like you, I would prefer to do artisinal wines. However, I am looking to do France as that is where most of my family / contacts live.

However, I have some interest for wines from Italy. Because I am frustrated with the way the distribution is going in Virginia (no luck yet with one) I am moving forward and filing the necessary paperwork with the State of Virginia to pursue a distribution license. I have a small set of people who are willing to work with me in this endeavor.

I know this is an increadibly audacious task and, especially in light of the fact that you do not know me from Adam, but I would enjoy reading more about your experiences and if you have any interest in expanding into Virginia I would enjoy speaking with you.

Cheers,

David Yancey

I'm pursuing an old Iowa City conversation we've had: the Fedrigotti wines from Alto Adige, especially the teroldego and the foianeghe (I think)--any chance of briging some across the Atlantic?
